Branch Connection Fittings

Olets are reinforced branch connection fittings. Before the prevalent of olet fittings, people usually use reducing tee or reinforced pipe to connect branches.

These fittings provides an outlet from a larger pipe to a smaller one. Run or header refers to the side that weld connection to the main pipe and the other side is branch or outlet which provides a smaller channel.

Olet Fitting Classification

Branch connection can divided into several types, in connect way it has Weldolet(weld outlet), Sockolet and Threadolet.

MSS SP 97 Weldolet refers to its branch welded onto outlet pipe. The branch diameter is from 1/8″ to 24″, wall thickness is available in STD, XS and Sch 160.

Sockoled refers to its branch is socket welding. Its branch dimension range is from 1/8″ to 4″, pressure Class 3000 and Class 6000.

Thredolet refers to its branch is connected to outlet pipe by thread. The dimension range of threadolet is the same as sockolet.

Their channel’s connontion way are different, but all of them are welded to the main  pipe.

MSS SP 97 Weldolet

MSS SP 97 Weldolet is the most common used branch connection fitting. Even through it is bevelded the ends and butt welded to pipes, it not belong to ASME B16.9 buttweld fittings. Because of the fabrication technique, it is classified to forged fittings. However, the expression of wall thickness is similar to butt weld fittings. The design of weldolet can minimize stress concentration and provide integral reinforcement.
